A clear, close-up photo in good light works best. JPG, PNG or HEIC.

A real oil painting of your pet, painted entirely by hand on canvas from your photo. A trained portrait painter mixes the colors and lays down every brushstroke. It is never a print, a filter or an app, and no two paintings are the same.

Why a hand-painted portrait

  • Painted by a real artist: oil paint on canvas, built up layer by layer so fur, whiskers and eyes have real depth you can see up close.
  • See it before it ships: when the painting is finished, we email you a photo of it to look over before it is packed.
  • Dogs, cats and other pets: 1, 2 or 3 pets together in one painting.
  • Two finishes: rolled canvas ships in a protective tube, ready for your framer; stretched canvas comes on wooden bars, ready to hang.

Sizes and finishes

  • 8 x 10 in (20 x 25 cm): rolled or stretched
  • 12 x 16 in (30 x 40 cm): rolled or stretched
  • 16 x 20 in (40 x 50 cm): rolled or stretched
  • 20 x 24 in (50 x 60 cm): rolled only

Outer frames are not included. Rolled canvases come with a blank border so a framer can stretch or mount them.

Your photo

  • Take it at your pet's eye level, in daylight, with the eyes in sharp focus.
  • Send the original full-size file, not a screenshot or a filtered version.
  • For 2 or 3 pets, a separate clear photo of each pet is fine; tell us how you would like them arranged.
  • If a photo is too small or blurry to paint from, we will email you before the painter starts.

Painting and delivery time

Painting takes about 2-3 weeks after we receive your photo, and delivery to the US takes about 1-2 weeks after that, so please allow about 4-5 weeks in total. Larger sizes and paintings with more pets can take a little longer.

For international destinations, delivery can take longer after painting is complete. Please contact support@dearpawstudio.com for destination-specific guidance before ordering.

Ordering for a holiday? November and December are the painters' busiest months. Please order as early as you can; if you have a date in mind, write it in the order notes and we will tell you honestly whether we can make it.

FAQ

Is it really painted by hand?
Yes. Every portrait is painted in oil on canvas by a professional portrait painter working from your photo. Nothing is printed onto the canvas.

Who paints it?
Our partner studio of portrait painters, who specialise in hand-painted oil portraits.

Can I see it before it ships?
Yes. We email you a photo of the finished painting before it is packed and shipped.

Rolled or stretched?
Rolled is lighter and arrives in a tube; take it to any framer. Stretched is mounted on a wooden frame and ready to hang straight away.

Can you paint my pet as a memorial?
Of course. Many people order a portrait to remember a pet who has passed. Any clear photo works, even an older one.

Can I return it?
Because each painting is made to order from your photo, we cannot accept returns for a change of mind. If your painting arrives damaged, please email us within 48 hours with photos of the painting and the packaging.
